1. Start with your provider
Your provider usually lists the apps and formats it supports. If it recommends an app, that’s often the simplest choice, because its sign-in instructions match.
2. Check device compatibility
- Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS): only apps from their official store can be installed.
- Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV: Google Play Store or Amazon Appstore.
- Apple TV, iPhone and iPad: App Store.
- Older TVs don’t always get recent apps.
3. Evaluate the app
- Recent updates and an identifiable publisher;
- a clear programme guide, parental controls and language options;
- a clear privacy policy;
- user reviews in the official store.
4. Avoid unknown sources
Installing an app from a file downloaded outside official stores can expose your device to malware. Stick to official stores.
